One of the questions I get asked most often is, “What is in your smoothie and what benefits could my family and I expect to see from including it in our daily practices?”
And then I hear, “But I like to chew my food so maybe it’s not for me.”
So first things first…I never expected to be the person who drank a smoothie EVERY day because I LOVE food!!
But I never expected to be the person to take supplements every day either.
When I was diagnosed with mold toxicity in 2011, I was put on a lot of supplements as part of my detox. And I’ve never been very good at remembering to take supplements or medications, so when I found a shake that included so many of my supplements in the ingredient list, I was all for it. I knew I would be getting the nutrition my body needed and I could do it just by eating a healthy breakfast.
And while everyone’s needs vary a bit, here are some benefits I have noticed since changing my breakfast each day.
What increase aging. Antioxidants also support our immune systems and help protect our body from inflammation. Shakeology contains some of the most potent antioxidants: spinach, carrot powder, strawberry powder, vitamins E and C, pomegranate, camu-camu, goji and blueberry.
Energy was one of my biggest issues with the mold toxicity. And I thought it was completely normal to feel exhausted all the time….it’s NOT! Shakeology contains a range of B vitamins and trace minerals, i.e. zinc and magnesium, from whole food sources that regulate metabolism and increase energy. Maca root, an adaptogen herb known to promote endurance and stamina, is also included.
The non-dairy prebiotic and probiotic blend contains fiber and different enzymes like amylase, papain, cellulose, and lactase, which all support digestion. These ingredients aid in breaking down food molecules into smaller molecules that can be properly digested, so all of the nutrients can be absorbed into your system. I had a client just this past week tell me that she feels most “regular” when she drinks her daily smoothie. Check out my past blogpost about why digestion is so helpful and some ways to improve it.
We live in an environment filled with toxins, i.e. smog, heavy metals, herbicides, cleaning products and pesticides. And they all have to be filtered in our bodies, and esp. in our livers. The ingredients in my smoothie that aid in detoxification include spirulina, chlorella, flaxseed, barley grass, spinach and kamut grass, which has been coined “nature’s most powerful detoxifier.” Their value comes from powerful detoxifying compounds such as chlorophyll and alpha-linoleic acid.
With back to school and the pending weather changes coming, immunity comes back to the forefront of our minds. The antioxidants, bioflavanoids, and flavanoids in Shakeology work to support immunity. Some of these ingredients include ashwaganda, acerola cherry, rose hips, and goji berries. Goji berries are one of the richest sources of antioxidants, promoting eye, reproductive, and circulatory health as well as supporting our immune systems and promoting longevity!
Yes, I could make a smoothie with these individual ingredients in them, but it would cost me hundreds of dollars each month to get the 60+ superfood ingredients and some I wouldn’t be able to find easily. Or I could include a few of the ingredients to achieve some of the benefit, but would still have to take the additional supplements.
For me, it is a no-brainer. I’ve seen all these benefits and then some. And this week in my Facebook group, I’m sharing with you some more of these benefits and some of my favorite recipes. If you’d like to join me and try some of these healthy snack alternative or smoothie recipes, check out the sample pack of my favorite flavors.
What supplements are you taking? And what of the above benefits could you use in your life?
